Action for Healthy Kids in Arizona Needs You!

Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) was founded in 2002 by former US Surgeon General, Dr. David Satcher, specifically to address the epidemic of undernourished and sedentary youth by focusing on changes at schools. AFHK engages diverse organizations, community leaders, and grassroots volunteers in actions that foster sound nutrition and physical activity in children, youth and schools. In Arizona, we have an active team but still need your help. Please consider becoming a member of AFHK in Arizona. The Arizona AFHK State Team consists of 4 sub-committees:

  1. Health, Nutrition and Physical Education - addresses curriculum and education strategies for use in the classroom setting.
  2. School Nutrition Environment: addresses nutrition issues outside of the classroom ranging from vending and fundraising to school cafeteria a la carte offerings and quality of meals.
  3. Physical Activity: addresses activity in the school environment.
  4. PR (includes marketing, website and communications): addresses all communications opportunities for the promotion, marketing and media coverage of the AZ AFHK State Team and State Plan.

To join the AZ-AFHK State Team, visit the web site at www.actionforhealthykids.org. Once you become a member, you will be able to participate in monthly symposium calls that are designed for child nutrition professionals on hot topics in child nutrition. Each member is emailed updates and how to instructions for the calls.
