New Look of School Milk

Moove over cartons, the New Look of School Milk is here!! Milk has a new look in schools. New 8 oz plastic bottles are appearing in many Arizona schools. Kids love the new bottle and find it easier to open, tastes better, and stays colder longer. Even better, more kids are taking milk in the meal lines just by making the switch from paper cartons to plastic bottles. Many school nutrition directors that have made the switch have found that while milk plays a critical nutritional role in their students' health, it also plays a role in increased revenues for the cafeterias.

“DRINK IT THEN SINK IT!” Recycling Program

Dairy Council of Arizona has new recycling bins available to school districts that have converted over to the New Look of School Milk. There are many benefits to recycling plastic bottles and cans:

  • Reduces our district’s waste management costs
  • Teaches children social responsibility and to respect the environment
  • Saves 50% of the energy needed to make products from new resin
  • Helps the environment by reducing landfill space and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Fulfills the demand for recycled plastics, which is much greater than the supply
  • Can be manufactured into a myriad of products, from decks to fleece sweaters to basketball backboards

Recycling is as simple as setting up a bin and creating awareness. It’s just as easy to throw away plastic bottles and cans in special bins as in other garbage bins. The “DRINK IT THEN SINK IT!” Program has specialized recycling bins, located in the cafeteria and in select areas of the school. Student awareness is being created through colorful posters, PA announcements and a kick-off promotion, beginning (day, date). To request recycling bins please contact Pat Johnson at pjohnson@dcaz.org.
