School Wellness

Local wellness policies in schools in 2006- The childhood obesity epidemic continues to gain coverage nationally with the passage of the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization act of 2004. Wellness policies must be created at the local level and must include the following:

  • Goals for nutrition education, physical activity and other activities
  • Nutrition guidelines for all foods served
  • Implementation plans
  • Evaluation and monitoring plans

Milk can and should play an important role in your wellness policy. School is where most students receive their entire dairy consumption for the day.
